Blue Color Prepainted GI Coil

A rolling shutter door is one of the more demanding uses for colour coated coil, because the same panel has to be formed into a repeated profile, run up and down thousands of times, keep its colour on the outside of a building, and stay light enough for the winding gear. Blue coil is a common choice for the door face, and the specification behind the colour is what decides whether the door still looks right after a few years of weather.

Substrate and surface condition

This coil is supplied on substrates commonly written to ASTM or AISI, including SGCC, CGCC and the TD series designations, and the surface condition is chromated, unoiled and non-skinpassed. The size range is 0.12 mm to 2.0 mm thick and 600 mm to 1250 mm wide, with length cut to the customer's request, and the surface treatment is a colour coating applied over the prepared substrate. Chromating passivates the zinc underneath and gives the paint system a stable base, while the unoiled condition means the surface arrives clean and ready to be used rather than needing a degreasing step first.

Construction applications

Roofs, walls, steel structure factories, partition walls and rolling shutter doors are the main construction uses, and the coating contributes waterproofing, fire performance and thermal insulation alongside its appearance. For a shutter door the forming behaviour matters as much as the colour, because the panel is profiled and then cycled repeatedly; a coating that cracks at the fold will fail long before it fades. A shutter door coil also runs through a roll former at speed, so the coating has to take repeated forming without losing adhesion at the crests.

Home appliances and electronics

Refrigerators, air conditioning enclosures and computer cases use colour coated coil for its wear resistance and corrosion resistance together. In appliance work the panel is usually visible on every side, so colour consistency across a coil matters as much as the shade itself, and the surface has to survive cleaning as well as handling on the line.

Transportation, furniture and advertising

Car ceilings and ship compartments take the material for its combination of light weight, strength and corrosion resistance, and office furniture and advertising boards take it because the colour range is wide and the sheet is easy to process into finished panels. In each case the coil is bought as a finished surface, so the customer is spared a painting line of their own.

Placing an order

Send the colour reference, the thickness and width, the substrate, the length required and the environment the finished panel will face. Delivery is normally within 15 to 20 days of a 30% deposit, or according to quantity. With those details confirmed at the enquiry stage, the coil can be made to the application rather than to a general description. Where the panel will be cut to size on site, it is worth agreeing the touch-up method in advance, because every cut end leaves steel exposed.
