Comparing a galvanised sheet against a bare steel sheet on purchase price alone gives an answer that reverses within a couple of years. What the zinc layer does

Maintenance follows the same pattern: a galvanised surface needs minimal upkeep, while bare steel needs repeated painting and sealing. State the environment, the expected service life and whether the sheet will be painted or left bare. A sheltered application and a seaside one do not need the same coating, and specifying the heavier class on both wastes money on one job while under-protecting the other.
