Metal Spiral Pipe Production Process
1. Raw materials
Carbon steel, low alloy steel, stainless steel, etc., steel coil unwinding
2. Forming
Bending forming: Using a forming machine, the steel strip is bent into a spiral shape. Adjust the angle and control the diameter and pitch of the spiral tube.
3. Welding
Submerged arc welding (SAW): The edge of the spiral steel strip is welded together using the SAW process. SAW has the advantages of high welding quality and uniform welds.
Internal and external welding: Usually, internal welding is done first, followed by external welding to ensure the integrity and strength of the weld.
4. Cutting
Fixed-length cutting: Usually it is 6 meters, 12 meters or customized according to customer's requirements.
5. Surface Treatment
De-scaling: Remove the oxide scale and rust from the surface of the pipe by sandblasting or shot blasting.
Coating or Galvanizing: Perform anti-corrosion treatment on the pipe according to requirements, such as painting or hot-dip galvanizing.
Features
The production process of metal spiral pipe is simple, with high production efficiency and low cost. It has developed rapidly. Generally, the strength of spiral welded pipes is higher than that of straight seam welded pipes. It can produce pipes with larger diameters using narrower billets, and can also produce pipes with different diameters using billets of the same width. However, compared with straight seam pipes of the same length, the weld length of spiral welded pipes increases by 30% to 100%, and the production speed is lower. Therefore, most small-diameter welded pipes adopt straight seam welding, while most large-diameter welded pipes adopt spiral welding.
