What Types Of Steel Are There?
Apr 24, 2025
Steel is a strip of steel with a specific cross-sectional shape and size, which is widely used in construction, engineering, and machinery manufacturing. According to different classification standards, steel can be divided into the following categories:
1. Classification by cross-sectional shape Simple cross-sectional steel: including square steel, round steel, flat steel, angle steel, hexagonal steel, etc. Complex cross-sectional steel (special-shaped steel): including I-beams, channels, rails, window frame steel, curved steel, etc.
2. Classification by production method Hot-rolled steel: produced by hot rolling process, commonly seen in large, medium and small steel. Welded steel: produced by welding process, such as welded H-beam.
3. Classification by size specifications Large steel: such as I-beams, channels, angle steel, etc., usually used in industrial buildings and metal structures. Medium steel: similar in use to large steel, but smaller in size. Small steel: such as small diameter round steel, often used for construction reinforcement.

4. Classification by purpose
H-shaped steel: including H-shaped steel beams, H-shaped steel columns, H-shaped steel piles, etc.
Construction steel: such as floor decking, with the advantages of convenient construction and high strength.
5. Classification by smelting quality
Ordinary steel: such as I-beams, channel steels, angle steels, etc., are widely used in construction and engineering.
High-quality steel: has higher smelting quality and is suitable for special purposes.
Summary: There are various ways to classify steel, mainly including cross-sectional shape, production method, size specifications, purpose and smelting quality. These classification methods help users better understand and choose suitable steel products.
