Weight Of Steel Coils

Apr 24, 2025

The weight of steel coils usually ranges from 5 to 30 tons, and the specific value is affected by the type of steel, production process and specifications. The following is a detailed classification:

Hot-rolled steel coils

The unit weight is generally 15-30 tons (common specifications are 10 tons, 20 tons, and 25 tons), with a width of 1.2m of about 18 tons and a width of 1.0m of about 14 tons.

Cold-rolled steel coils

Lighter weight, usually 3-20 tons, with mainstream specifications of 5 tons, 10 tons, and 15 tons.

Other types

Galvanized steel coils: 3-10 tons (common 5 tons)
Color-coated steel coils: 3-15 tons (common 5 tons, 10 tons).

It should be noted that the specific weight needs to be determined in combination with the steel plant process and customer needs. For example, small steel coils may be as low as 5 tons, while large ones can reach more than 30 tons, and special equipment is required for transportation and storage. If you need an accurate calculation, please refer to the formula in the steel coil weight calculation method (such as the outer diameter and wall thickness calculation method).
